Competencies
In this sixth session of DC Advocacy Partners, participants will:
- Be able to identify critical city and federal issues and the process by which they can personally address their concerns
- Understand how a bill becomes a law at the city and federal levels
- Understand the best ways to advocate for policy change at the city and federal levels
- Learn how to prepare for a meeting with staff of DC City Council and the U.S. Congress
- Gain awareness of several pieces of ongoing legislation within the Federal Government
Skill sets
Partners will:
- Advocate for support of a bill through a letter to Congress
- Appropriately use citations in testimony and other forms of written and oral advocacy
