Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities in the 21st Century and Service Coordination


 In this second session of DC Advocacy Partners, partners will:

  • Be able to define what qualifies as a developmental and/or intellectual disability
  • Be able to describe the service coordination system and the services that are available in DC for individuals with disabilities and their families
  • Understand what the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Act affirms
  • Understand the history and current status of the DD Act, including reauthorizations
  • Begin to understand the DC legislative process and how to influence policy through it

Skill Sets

Partners will:

  • Become more comfortable speaking in front of their peers
  • Evaluate what makes for a “good” oral testimony on a particular issue
  • Map a 7 month plan for their long-term projects
  • Describe components of the DD Act and how they impact people with DD
